Restricting purchases for products on auction
Auction Plus will attempt to remove the Add to Cart button on the product and collection pages for products on auction. Depending on your store configuration and active theme, there may be additional steps required to restrict purchases to auction winners. Before running an auction campaign, please verify the following:
- Auction products are only published to the Online Store sales channel
- 3rd party apps, such as Wishlist Apps, are disabled for products on Auction
- The Add to Cart option is disabled for products on auction on your theme pages
Auction Plus cannot prevent an auction item from being purchased if the product is in multiple sales channels, a 3rd party app adds an auction item to the cart, or the Add to Cart button is present on theme pages. Please follow the guide below to restrict purchases in these scenarios.
Sales Channels
Sales channels provide customers with the option to purchase products outside of your online store. Products on auction should be published only to the Online Store channel. The Publishing section can be adjusted when creating or editing a product in the Shopify admin. Ensure all channels other than the Online Store channel are de-selected before saving the product.
3rd Party App Conflicts
In some cases, 3rd party apps can facilitate checkout with auction products, even when Auction Plus disables the Add to Cart option. Examples include wishlist apps that display an Add to Wishlist button on product pages, or apps that add a sticky Add to Cart button to the product page. We recommend disabling these apps for products on auction, as they can result in customers checking out with auction products, even when they did not place the winning bid.
Themes
Depending on your theme, there may be an Add to Cart option on product collection pages that allow customers to quickly add items to their cart. Auction Plus will remove this option for most themes, however if the Add to Cart button is still present for products on auction, please contact support from the in-app chat and we'd be happy to assist with any necessary theme-related adjustments.
